Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that incorporates martial arts, music and acrobatics. Its history dates back to the early 1500’s in Brasil. Capoeira was born out of oppression and slavery of the African people who were brought to Brasil to work on the plantations. After many years, the slaves had fooled their oppressors into believing that Capoeira was a dance when in fact they were training for a fight – a fight for their freedom.

While many records pertaining to the initial beginnings of Capoeira have been destroyed after the abolishment of slavery in Brasil and much of Capoeira’s traditions, origins philosophies and teachings are being lost through translation and through oral transmittance, by study Capoeira at the ICC, it will ensure that all knowledge and fundamentals of Capoeira are being preserved to the best of our knowledge and communicated at the highest quality, maintaining the origins of Capoeira Contemporania (Contemporary) and continuing to improve any and all knowledge of precedent and modern Capoeira .

Mestre Peixe (Andre Cerutti) has dedicated his life to capoeira since 1984 and his recognition as a Capoeira Master in brazil (for Group Capoeira Brasil – Australia) is from several International Grand Masters of Capoeira in Brazil, USA, Europe .

Grupo Capoeira Brasil Australia has an established Capoeira academy in Australia since 1992 and provided many individuals with career opportunities within Capoeira. Either as a Capoeira Instructor, in administration, entertainment and management roles within the Capoeira industry.

Mestre Peixe has a team of highly experienced Capoeira instructors who work together with him to promote Capoeira throughout Australia. Currently there are sixteen (16) experienced senior instructors qualified in Brazil as instructors and 17 monitors (in the process of becoming senior instructors).

Group Capoeira Brasil Australia wants to expand its training and education of Capoeira by initiating a certified learning institute for Capoeira (the ICC) that will maintain the integrity and high standards of the art form.

GRUPO CAPOEIRA BRASIL was founded on the 14 of January 1989, (the date of the 100 years of abolishment commemoration) by the masters Boneco, Paulinho Sabia and Paulao.

Grupo Capoeira Brasil is constantly updating its movements and songs to keep in touch with all that is happening in the world of Capoeira. All the new moves, songs, and facts found through research are discussed and carefully analysed by the Masters before being introduced to the students. It is only when the masters believe that the game will be enhanced that the new elements will be introduced.

Grupo Capoeira Brasil strongly respects the traditions, folklore and fundamentals of Capoeira but is always striving to mix a unique style of traditional and new movements and philosophies to create a more graceful and exciting art.
